Considerations When You Need Collector Car Insurance

If you own a collector car or are thinking of buying a collector car, then you will want to insure your car. When looking for collector car insurance, there are several things that you should consider before purchasing the insurance.

There are actually three different types of car insurance coverage. Most of your everyday used cars are covered under the ACV (actual cash value) plan. There are a lot of collector car owners who insure their collector cars with this plan due to lack of knowledge of specialty programs that are designed for collectors. When you have an ACV plan the actual value of your car depreciates each year that your car gets older.

One of the specialty programs that you can choose is the Stated Value program. Not all insurance companies offer this program, but for those that do, this allows you to state the value of your collector car above depreciated book value. Even with Stated Value coverage, your car can still depreciate and claims will only cover up to the stated value of your car.

The other specialty program is Agreed Value. With Agreed Value coverage there is no car depreciation. In the event of an accident that results in a total loss of your car then the Agreed Value coverage guarantees that you will receive full value of your collector car.

Policy restrictions vary from state to state and agency to agency. There are also different restrictions with the different specialty programs. Some specialty programs only allow you to drive your collector car for a certain amount of miles per year, while others only allow you to drive your collector car in parades or car shows. Most specialty programs prohibit your collector car for commercial use. This includes public transportation, delivery, racing, and daily use.

Most specialty programs have an age limit for the driver that the program covers. A person who is 30 years old or older is the average age that is required for most programs, while some programs allow anyone over 21 years old.

Other things to consider with collector car insurance is that the specialty programs offer cheaper insurance rates than the normal insurance policies. Plus many insurance companies only require a one time liability fee even for multiple cars.

Some insurance companies offer an insurance plan for collector cars that are not driven but are being stored. This is much cheaper insurance because the car is never on the road. Keep in mind that with this type of coverage, you cannot take your car on the road, and if you do decide to take it for a drive, you will want to make sure that you change the type of coverage you have on it, even if it is only temporary.

The big thing to remember when you are shopping for collector car insurance is that you do want to have coverage for your collector car. You have spent time and money on your collector car and you take pride in it, so obviously you want to make sure it is covered in case of an accident. Also remember that no matter how safe of a driver you may be, an accident can still happen due to the fault of someone else.

We know that it is very frustrating when you speak to a sales agent over the phone and even much more frustrating in person. They usually try to manipulate us into buying their policy and they end up having the commission while you suffer the losses.

We still cannot blame them for doing such as they are only obliged to do so because of their company policy. This ultimately means that the insurance agent does not really care if you are losing money or not as long as they get what they need from you.

You are probably thinking of ways to get away from these insurance agents and get a good discount for your car insurance policy. Chances are you do have that edge to beat them.

There are websites on the internet that promote and compare car insurance quotes. These websites even offer discounts of up to 40 percent or more. A lot of people might find this news shocking but do believe when these websites offer a lot than those insurance agents can.

These website also offer car insurance comparison wherein you can compare different rates from different insurance companies to help you decide which of them are the best ones for you. You can basically enjoy this advantage as you will not be dealing with insurance agents anymore along with the discounts.

All you need to do is to visit a car insurance comparison website and fill out a simple form without divulging anything other than your name and the area you live. You can then send it with one click and within seconds you will be able to get the best car insurance deal you can find.

This way you will never be speaking with an insurance agent ever again. All work will be finished by just clicking and filling out several forms for you and you will get the right car insurance policy you will need.

If you want to you can take these quotes and contact an agent and ask them can they give you a better quote. Chances are they will either hang up on you or tell you the insurance cover is not right for you and try to get you to but an alternative policy.

Car Insurance

Anyone who drives or owns a vehicle should have car insurance. Most states require a driver to have car insurance and to carry proof of that insurance. There are civil penalties for not having car insurance up to and including losing a person’s right to drive. Additionally, legitimate car dealers will not allow car buyers to leave their lots without having car insurance in place for the vehicles they have purchased. Many drivers and car owners may think that they can save on their auto expenses by doing without it, but in the long run, attempting to do without coverage can result in far greater financial hardship in the event of an accident or theft of the car; even being under-insured can be a big mistake. Given the importance of having vehicles properly insured, the wise car owner will become knowledgeable regarding specific kinds of coverage. The most popular car insurance coverage options are:
• Liability: This kind of insurance pays for damages incurred when a driver is at fault. It is categorized into property damage insurance and bodily injury insurance. In general, liability insurance represents the absolute minimum insurance which a driver is required to carry.
• Collision: This type of car insurance covers the cost of repairing or replacing a vehicle if it is hit or damaged by another vehicle or as the result of a single vehicle accident. Collision insurance will have a deductible, which is an amount of funds which is the responsibility of the person who owns the car. This amount is subtracted from the amount the insurance company pays to the policy holder in the event of an accident or other mishap. For example, if the deductible on a car insurance policy is $500 and the repair cost is $1,000 the car insurance company will pay the policy holder $500. If the repair costs less than $500, the car insurance company will not have to pay the policy-holder anything. People who drive older cars which have little value may want to consider dispensing with collision insurance. However, be aware that not carrying collision insurance means a car insurance company pays nothing in the event the vehicle is damaged, totally destroyed or stolen.
• No-fault insurance: This type of insurance is meant to cover medical treatments and loss of wages as a direct result of an accident. It is only available in a select number of states and will only pay under certain circumstances.
• Umbrella insurance: This policy goes above and beyond the typical coverage available to car owners, covering more than just the minimum liability. It may also cover things that traditional liability policies won’t.
• Comprehensive coverage: Similar to an umbrella policy, this coverage also covers more than the traditional policy. However, comprehensive goes one step beyond even the umbrella coverage. It will compensate the driver in the event of fire, flood or other natural disaster, in addition to providing assistance if the vehicle is stolen or vandalized.
Car insurance is required in all states, to one extent or another, but drivers are still free to
choose to what extent they cover their personal property and health. The wise driver will
evaluate his/her requirements before settling for the cheapest and least comprehensive plan
available.

Car Insurance Tips to Teach Your Teen

14 January 2010

Author: Danny Aaron

One of every parent’s most dreaded moments is handing their teenager the keys to a motor vehicle. In this moment, they know that they are trusting their child to operate a piece of machinery that can be seen as either a tool for independence, or, worse, a weapon. Unfortunately this time will come at some point or the other for every parent, and the best thing you can do for peace of mind is to ensure that your child knows how to drive as safely as possible.

Teaching your teenager how to drive properly, obey the rules of the road, and also, maintain a low car insurance premium, is very important. Teaching your child how to drive properly is a direct way of ensuring they will maintain a low car insurance premium, especially if you are the one who is going to be paying it. It is common knowledge that car insurance premiums for young drivers with little or no driving history can be very expensive. Because your child is a new driver, this makes it even more important for them to be insured when they are on the road.

The first thing you need to do is to ensure that your teenager is completely able to drive properly. This may seem like an odd thing to focus on, as many people may be of the mind that if their child passes the driving test, that means they can drive. This is not always necessarily the case. Passing the driving test based on all the formalities that have been practiced for, is very different to being a motorist on the roads on an almost daily, if not totally daily, basis. Drive with your teenager as often as possible in their learning experience. Teach them in a calm, confident and non-judgmental way to drive cautiously and carefully, observing and obeying the rules of the road as concisely as possible. Practice makes perfect, so no matter how wary you are of driving as a passenger with your teen, you may need to literally take a back seat on occasions. Observing how your child drives and giving them handy hints whilst on the road can be completely invaluable to their driving future. Beware of overstepping the very thin line though, as a lot of strong minded teens trying to prove themselves and their driving abilities, may not be impressed with a nagging back seat driver. Maintain a helpful but trusting tone at all times. This is the best thing you can do for your new teenage driver.

Encourage your child to take as many driving lessons as possible. Too much is never enough with driving experience under the hand of a licensed instructor. It may be costly, but if your child has an accident the price you pay could be even higher.

A lot of teenagers get over excited and swept up over getting a new motor vehicle. They may feel the pressure and urge to get the fastest or smartest car possible. If you or your teenager, depending on who is purchasing the vehicle, can afford it, rather encourage your child that safety in a motor vehicle comes first. A vehicle that comes loaded with safety features will be far cheaper to insure, repair and replace than something that is geared more towards looking good or driving really fast.

Enforce the safety of your teenager’s vehicle in their minds at all times. Ensure that they know how to work the alarm and immobilizer system, and any other safety features that are in place in the car. Tell them to put these safety features on at all times, even if they are only leaving the car unattended for a short while. It takes a thief only a few minutes to break into a motor vehicle.

By teaching your teenager from their young driving age how to be cautious and respectful of their place on the road, they are already on a good path to the lowest monthly insurance premium possible, and also their own bodily safety each day when they venture out.

Secrets to Finding Cheap Car Insurance For Young Drivers

14 January 2010

Author: Nikki James
Source: ezinearticles.com

It can be difficult for teenage drivers to find cheap car insurance rates. Most of the time car insurance companies see teenage drivers as a higher risk due to their lack of drive time and experience on the road which causes their rates to be more expensive. Here are a few things that you can do to make your young driver’s auto insurance more affordable:

1) One of the best ways for a teenage driver to save on auto insurance is to be on their parent/guardian’s insurance policy rather than being on their own. This could save you $50+ every month on your car insurance premium.

2) Your vehicle is the key. The make and model of your car has a huge effect on the price of your auto insurance, so avoid luxury and sports cars because these will increase your car insurance rates dramatically. Also avoid any cars with modifications such as body kits and sound systems. It is best to go with a car that is 5-7 years old with good safety features.

3) As a young driver it is important to maintain a squeaky clean driving record. Getting a ticket or in to a car accident as a teen driver could cause your car insurance rates to double! If you are a parent, you need to stress the importance of safe driving to your young driver. Having a clean driving record will definitely help your teenage driver lower their insurance rates in the future. The more years you go accident free, more likely you are to find cheap auto insurance.

4) Ask the car insurance company about any auto insurance discounts that they offer for young drivers. The most common auto insurance discount is the good student discount. Typically, insurance companies require you to have a B average or better and will ask you to send proof of your grades (report card, transcript, etc.). This will definitely help lower your rates. If you do not drive much, you may also qualify for the low mileage discount. As a young driver it is important that you ask your insurance provider which discounts you qualify for because it will really help you find the cheapest auto insurance rate.

Reasons Why You Should Go For a Short Term Car Insurance Policy

14 January 2010

It is undeniable that there are a lot of different auto insurance companies today with various offers and packages that you will find useful and entertaining. Sadly, though, this large selection of different options does not necessarily mean easier picking out which policy to get.

However, with this low point in the economy, making a choice in what kind of insurance policy can be easier. Apart from the good coverage, people are now looking for those plans that are affordable, if not exactly cheap.

The problem here, however, is that getting a auto insurance that’s cheap depends largely to the plan holder. As you may already know by now, there are tons of different factors that affect the rates of your insurance quotes, so there’s really no way you can make sure that you’ll be getting a good and cheap policy.

But that’s old news. Again, with today’s numerous auto insurance companies, there are now more and more car insurance policies that are very, very friendly, even to the most thrifty pocket. One of these policies is the short term car insurance. Instead of the regular long term coverage, this kind of car insurance allows you to have a policy that will only cover you for short term basis, like daily or weekly.

Now, some might be wondering why you would need this short term coverage for. Well, if you’re not a regular driver, this might just be the perfect plan for you.

For example, people who do not own cars and only drive from time to time are some of the most perfect people to have this car insurance policy. As it would be highly unnecessary for them to have full blown policy coverage, but they would still need it occasionally and there’s no other person in the household that can list them down in their own policies, having short term car insurance would really be nice. It can help them save a lot and have them comply with local laws.

Your relatives and other visitors from abroad can also benefit from this type of auto insurance. A lot of auto insurance companies are now offering short term policies for foreigners and visitors who want to drive around the locality, so they wouldn’t exactly need to ask you to drive them around even when you’re busy anymore.

Apart from these reasons, there are still a lot of other benefits and reasons for getting this kind of policy. It may even be the best type for you while you haven’t made your mind up yet with what policy it is you want to get.

There are many factors that go into buying the right car insurance policy. With such an important decision it is critical that you do your research and understand just exactly what it is you are buying. A good first step is to understand what makes comprehensive car insurance unique and identify the advantages and disadvantages to owning this type of policy. The name comprehensive car insurance says a lot about the type of policy it refers to. In fact, comprehensive car insurance provides insurance coverage for just about anything that might happen to your vehicle or because of it. Comprehensive car insurance will cover not only damage that results from an automobile accident but it will cover damage to your car that is from theft or attempted theft, vandalism, and even weather events such as hail storms or blizzards. What is appealing to many people who decide to invest in comprehensive car insurance is the fact that this type of policy also covers damage that is done to other people’s property as a result of your vehicle. Because a comprehensive car insurance policy covers so many situations, the cost to purchase comprehensive car insurance can be higher than that of many other types of policies. For many people, paying an additional amount of money each month is well worth the money. You may be able to get a discount for covering your entire family or for covering multiple vehicles. You may also be able to secure a discount if you have a good driving record. There are many ways to shop for comprehensive car insurance. You can call or visit your local insurance agencies or request information by mail. Sports Car Insurance

Many motorists wish to save enough to buy sports car at least once in a lifetime, even though they might not be able to afford the maintenance of the car for a long time later. This is because owning a sports car can be an expensive dream and the insurance can be sky high. Since the sports cars are prone to accidents and being stolen, insurance is a must in spite of it being so expensive.
Keeping this problem in mind, insurance companies have made the decision to change the trend of collecting insurance based on the car. Instead, the driver is being considered along with the car. This ensures that people who are a bit older and have a good driving records can pay considerably lesser insurance compared to youngsters owning a car. Driving carefully can go a long way in helping the motorists reduce the insurance premiums even for sports cars.
Most sports cars are provided insurance by the manufacturing company itself. However, most of these cars might require additional insurance or might have to take up insurance from a private insurance company. A few precautions might help the owner get a cut in the premium amount to some extent.
Shopping around for quotations might give an idea of the market price. Also, this allows the individual to get in any special deals that are being offered on that particular day. Different insurance agents have different criterion based on which the insurance amount might be lessened. Most of them might give a lesser premium if alarms or trackers already secure the sports vehicle. Other might consider the driving experience of the driver and might give a discount if the individual has taken an advanced driving course. The age of the individual also plays a major role in convincing the agents about safe driving.
The quote provided by the insurance agent might cover for both theft and accidental insurance. It also varies on what exactly needs to be covered and the quote can be widely different for different requests from the customer. It is always better to look around before taking up insurance for a sports car that might be considerably higher than other options.
